The best Big Ben jokes

Now, I know getting hurt isn't funny, but now that we know he's okay, let's unleash our humor...

In an extrodinary move of team unity Coach Cowher has graciously agreed to donate his jaw to Ben's recovery.

Ben's Commercial
Campbell's will still tape a commercial today for Chunky soup starring Ben Roethlisberger's mother, even though Ben won't be available. Ben has recovered enough to eat the soup in the ad, but he refuses to use a napkin.
From Jake's Comedy Corner

As I’m sure you know by now, Ben Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet when he had his accident. It’s dangerous not to wear a helmet. Just think how many guys are celebrated Father’s Day yesterday because they weren’t wearing a helmet.
Jay Leno

When news broke of his accident, people feared the worst, in order of importance:
• Will he miss part of the season?
• Will he miss the entire season?
• Will he ever play football again?
• Will he be able to walk again?
• Will he die?
• Gasp — will Charlie Batch once again be a starting quarterback?

Also, Ben's helmet was up for sale on Ebay:

I'm kind of wondering if the winning bidder will wear it.

There is also a Big Ben Motorcycle Accident bobblehead:

Finally, please buy the Big Ben commemorative jersey:

An open letter to Snoop Dogg

Dear Snoop Dogg,

I have, for a very long time, declared to the world that you were my above-all most favorite celebrity. Anybody who knows anything about me at all can tell you this.

Our relationship truly began when I picked up "Doggystyle" on cassette for 25¢ at my local Record Exchange in 2001. It quickly became one of my favorite albums. I realize my obsession may perhaps be a little late based on its release several years previous, but it really came to me at the right time in my life. I played it nonstop in my car for months - even though the bass made the crappy speakers in my car sound like they wanted to pop out of the dash and claw my eyes out.

I was always telling everybody how cool you were, and how I totally wished we were related, like if you were my uncle or something. Hangin' with Uncle Snoop! That would have been so rad.

I shot through the roof when I discovered you were a Steelers fan. How awesome is that? I even gave you a shout-out in a previous article I wrote. I also nearly slit my wrists last year when I *almost* got box seats with you at last year's Steelers/Chargers game. We can save this story for a future posting.

There was also an incident last 4th of July when I played "Signs" (one of my top 5 favorite songs) nonstop for 3 hours with my boom box on my shoulder while cruising the streets OB. You can consider this free promotion - on me.

You were at the 50-yard line at last year's Super Bowl, you performed at a pre-Super Bowl party, and then you partied with some of the Steelers after we won. (Okay, I might internet-stalk you from time to time.)

So Snoop, PLEASE explain this to me:

...because I think I'm going to throw up now. God.

Ben is a true Steeler now.

From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

steel-jaw.jpgDr. Daniel W. Pituch, chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mercy, who was directly involved with the surgery Monday, said that the surgical team used "internal fixation technology," which involves the placement of small titanium plates and screws onto the surface of the broken bones in Mr. Roethlisberger's jaws and face. The plates are 11/2 to 2 inches long and resemble hair barrettes.

The titanium plates were carefully bent to match the contours of the facial bones, Dr. Pituch said.

"Once I had the bones put back together the way [they] needed to be, I kept [them] in that place by putting the screws in there," Dr. Pituch said. "Small holes were drilled into the bones and small screws were carefully placed into these holes.

"This technology allows us to have a more predictable outcome that usually does not require any additional major reconstructive procedures."

The plates, he said, help the cracked and broken bones fuse back together. Though only needed for about six weeks, it is unlikely that they would be removed.

Because the titanium plates are applied flat to the bone and screwed into place, no visible signs of their presence will be evident once the injuries heal.

While the doctors at Mercy Hospital refused to discuss the surgery in any further detail, Dr. Ira D. Papel, president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and associate professor at Johns Hopkins University, said he wouldn't be surprised to see Mr. Roethlisberger exercising within two weeks.

Dr. Papel said that the old-fashioned method of repairing a broken jaw -- by wiring the bones into place to ensure that they did not move -- normally required a six-week healing process.

Based on accounts he's read about Mr. Roethlisberger's injuries and treatment, he said, that process should be shortened considerably.

"That's what it's all about -- stabilizing the bones in the right position," he said.

He also skated out of the hospital late last night. Why wasn't the paparazzi stalking? I want to see him.

Really, we should be glad he's not dead.

Broken upper and lower jaw

Mild concussion

Fractured nose

Multiple head cuts and bumps and bruises

Two lost teeth

Several other chipped teeth

Ben - what the hell is wrong with you?

From ThePittsburghChannel.com:

ben-accident.jpgPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was taken to the hospital after a motorcycle accident on Monday morning.

The Steelers confirmed the accident for WTAE Channel 4 Action News.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge.

A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground.

Dude.

The witness said she saw the accident and went over to help but did not recognize Roethlisberger. When she asked him what his name was, she said he replied, "Ben."

The woman added that Roethlisberger asked her a series of questions, including where he was and what state he was in. He attempted to stand up but the woman said she encouraged him not to move until paramedics arrived.

Roethlisberger was taken to Mercy Hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries.

Police have closed down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnels.

Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the Tribune-Review. In the past, he has publicly said he prefers to ride helmetless, which is legal in Pennsylvania.

---------------------------

I am really disappointed in him. I really am not a fan of motorcycles, and as a resident of Southern California, I can attest that they are all death traps. There are serious motorcycle accidents here daily. And on top of that, his not wearing a helmet is inexcusable. Ben should really be more responsible with himself, considering he has SO MUCH at stake.

Also, this should be a wake up call for Pennsylvania lawmakers. Why is this not a law?

---------------------------

Update: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undergoing surgery after a motorcycle accident on Monday morning, doctors at Mercy Hospital said.

Roethlisberger is in serious but stable condition, according to Dr. Larry Jones, who did not say what type of surgery was being performed.

Pittsburgh Police have scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m.

---------------------------

Update:  According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement.

A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said.

KNEES - BAD. omg.

---------------------------

Megan just sent me this:

A paint line around a puddle of blood is shown on the street where Ben Roethlisberger crashed.

---------------------------

Update: I think the knee stuff is unfounded.
