Ben - what the hell is wrong with you?

From ThePittsburghChannel.com:

The Steelers confirmed the accident for WTAE Channel 4 Action News.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge.

A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground.

Dude.

The witness said she saw the accident and went over to help but did not recognize Roethlisberger. When she asked him what his name was, she said he replied, "Ben."

The woman added that Roethlisberger asked her a series of questions, including where he was and what state he was in. He attempted to stand up but the woman said she encouraged him not to move until paramedics arrived.

Roethlisberger was taken to Mercy Hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries.

Police have closed down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnels.

Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the Tribune-Review. In the past, he has publicly said he prefers to ride helmetless, which is legal in Pennsylvania.

---------------------------

I am really disappointed in him. I really am not a fan of motorcycles, and as a resident of Southern California, I can attest that they are all death traps. There are serious motorcycle accidents here daily. And on top of that, his not wearing a helmet is inexcusable. Ben should really be more responsible with himself, considering he has SO MUCH at stake.

Also, this should be a wake up call for Pennsylvania lawmakers. Why is this not a law?

Update: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undergoing surgery after a motorcycle accident on Monday morning, doctors at Mercy Hospital said.

Roethlisberger is in serious but stable condition, according to Dr. Larry Jones, who did not say what type of surgery was being performed.

Pittsburgh Police have scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m.

---------------------------

Update:  According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement.

A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said.

KNEES - BAD. omg.

Megan just sent me this:

A paint line around a puddle of blood is shown on the street where Ben Roethlisberger crashed.

Update: I think the knee stuff is unfounded.

Let's see: our government is made up of a bunch of crooks; MAC no longer makes the "Love Child" shade of their popular lipgloss, "Lipglass"; Noah's Bagels closes at 4pm on Sunday; the effects of global warming are imminent and my favorite quarterback on the field is a drunken reckless freak off of the field. What kind of star athlete drives a motorcycle??!??! Doesn't he realize that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only thing in many peoples lives that makes them happy? Why would his management team allow him to even have one, especially given his penchant for Patron? Unbelievable...

On the bright side, that he calmly asked his rescuer a series of questions is kinda Superman. Sweet.

I'm sure that he has clause in his contract that he should avoid such activities. One of the Brown's player had a similar accident but much sever one and he missed the entier season playing football game and he was financially penalized for that by the organization as well as chaged for reckless driving.
Need to be more responsible I agree.

I watched Sports Center last night and they mentioned that Maddox was available [which goes without saying] if they decide they might need him. I egged the tv after they said that.
