Possible Randle El replacements

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette

The loss of Randle El could hurt, but they lost Plaxico Burress last year and won the Super Bowl.

They have two plans to replace Randle El -- with Cedrick Wilson and possibly undrafted 2005 rookie Nate Washington, and there's also the draft.

Washington, who has the size (6-1) and speed to play split end, made two key plays in the AFC championship game that kept their first scoring drive alive. On third-and-7, Washington caught a 13-yard pass to keep the drive going. He then broke up a potential interception in the end zone before Jeff Reed put the Steelers in front -- for good as it turned out -- with a 47-yard field goal.

"We feel good about Nate," Kevin Colbert, director of football operations said. "Nate was a kid coming out of small college, and he had to adapt. He had to make a more dramatic leap than a kid coming from a bigger school. Throughout the year, he got better and better and better, to where he helped us win a playoff game. You look at him and say, OK, this kid's got a chance to develop."

First in line for Antwaan Randle El's job of returning punts will be Ricardo Colclough, Colbert said.

But who is going to do the fabulous trick plays? That is what I'd like to know. I hope Coach Cowher comes up with something. The trick plays are definitely one of my favorite things about the Steelers.

Free Agency update: Chris Hope signed with the Titans, and we signed Barrett Brooks, Brandon Joe, Doug Easlick. Full update tomorrow, as keeping up with all of this hurts my head. I think I'm going to make a chart.

Perhaps a PowerPoint presentation is in order as well.

I heard that the Steelers were talking to Michael Robinson (QB/WR) during the combine. I think they'll come up with something for the trick plays. They are usually very good at replacing lost players.

El was a good player, but he's definately not as irreplaceable as some have made him out to be.

My thought is draft a QB/WR convert like Robinson... ideally, someone like Reggie McNeal would be around in the 3rd or 4th round... he's bigger, stronger, faster than Randle El...

Seems to me no one remembers about Quincy Morgan! He in my opinion was better than Randle El, not only as a return man but a reciever also. They need to give this guy more touches. If you can find clips of the games last year, take a look at what happened everytime he touched the ball. Quincy Morgan was one of the top receivers taken in his draft year. He used to be a problem for other teams such as the Browns and Cowboys, but since he has been in Pittsburgh he has straightened his act up. You would have heard more about him last year because he was coming on strong at the end of the year. But then he suffered a season ending injury. He will be back and healthy and ready to go. Last year being his firdt year with the Steelers he still was learning the plays and getting his timing down on the routes. So everyone watch for #11 to be across the field from #86. Everyone is sleeping this guy, thats just another good target for the NFL's best young quarterback to use to keep getting better! XLI is our Destiny!
